Mere Children

Staying warm in a dirty sheet

It smells off and familiar

History won’t let it be renewed

A fowl reminder in comfort we’ve gotten used to

Lay down get up with it wrapped around the skull

In the kitchen in the bathroom outside at work until one returns to bed

Fighting against the convenience of autopilot and cruise control

What do you think of what we do, God?

Fearing wasted days

Lost, abandoned ways

Mazes, don’t leave us lost to ourselves

Mere children, don’t forsake or leave us.
