Rethinking My Current Day

The best parts of me lay deep and come forth when I’m slow to speak

Reactions replayed from the day haunt me

Just a little more time to think

A little more time to respond

Running in place looking for something new doesn’t seem to be working.

I can remain silent

Disappear in plain sight

Think before leaping from my unruly tongue

Compose myself

Take a few extra breaths.

Through the curtains of wisdom are carefully chosen responses and replies

I forgot how my face feels with my be what I think they want mask off

The best parts of me

Aren’t even me.
