Before Sleep Blankets

Heavy heads rest on soft laps

Can we find silence and peace alone

Together alone

Pointless noises muted gone

Megaphones exaggerating directly in our ears

Well we don’t want to right now.

Simplicity in her eyes it’s so complex

Being pulled in every direction vexed

All I want is to love my lover without threats

Without schemes or evil neighbors

Every enemy praying for our death

Fasting in hopes we’ll have heart attacks.

We don’t belong here

Just visiting

Until we arrive at our true home

Taking turns wiping bitter tears away

God’s love is more than enough

We’ll battle until sleep comes

Clean each other’s feet and wounds.
